The .45 Automatic Colt Pistol [11.43x23mm] round is a rimless pistol cartridge. It was designed by John Browning in 1904 and was used by Colt in their M1911 pistol. Eventually, this cartridge became the US armed services' official pistol and submachinegun round for the next 70 years.
