9×39mm SP-5 rounds are a type of rifle ammunition featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

General characteristics[]

The SP-5 munitions were developed by Nikolai Zabelin and uses a full metal jacket slug designed for accuracy, making them the best for sniper rifles such as the VSS Vintorez.

SP-5 rounds have similar performance to SP-6 rounds with less penetration but much lower air resistance, allowing them to maintain their velocity for a longer distance before dropping.

The 9×39mm SP-5 rounds are used in the:

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

In Shadow of Chernobyl, this ammunition is very common amongst Monolith soldiers in Pripyat, at the Chernobyl NPP, inside of the Sarcophagus, and in the Monolith Control Center. You can obtain some of this ammunition earlier in the game by doing some jobs for Duty, but eventually they start supplying you with 9x39mm SP-6 rounds. After becoming friendly with Duty, Colonel Petrenko will sell these bullets in decent quantities, anywhere from 30 to 150 rounds.

Clear Sky[]

Though still present in game code, SP-5 rounds are not available in Clear Sky without the use of modifications or cheats. The ammo is not compatible with any existing weapons.

Call of Pripyat[]

9×39mm SP-5 rounds are easy to find in Call of Pripyat. Owl sells them at the start of the game, and a VSS Vintorez can be found in the Burning Farm anomaly in Zaton, thus giving the player a head start. Many Duty and Monolith members use 9×39mm ammo, when killed these bullets can be acquired from their bodies. Later on in the game, Loners begin to equip 9×39mm caliber rifles as well. Hawaiian will commonly have these bullets in stock, albeit in small quantities.

It should be noted that though the ammunition is identified as SP-5 ammunition, internally Call of Pripyat references the ammunition as the old 9x39mm PAB-9 ammunition. This extends to its inventory icon and in-game model, making it appear as PAB-9 ammunition, and more importantly its ballistic properties (armor piercing, damage, etc) are almost identical to the statistics of PAB-9 rounds in previous games.
