9×39mm SP-5 rounds are a type of rifle ammunition featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. It was also cut from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.

General characteristics[]

The SP-5 munition uses a full metal jacket slug designed for accuracy, making them the best for sniper rifles such as the Vintar BC.

SP-5 rounds have similar performance to SP-6 rounds with less penetration but much lower air resistance, allowing them to maintain their velocity for a longer distance before dropping.

Appearances[]

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

A sniper round for the Tunder S14 and the VLA assault rifles and the Vintar special sniper rifle. It has a subsonic bullet which due to its heavy weight and special design can penetrate most bulletproof vests at a range of up to 400 meters.
Shadow of Chernobyl in-game description

In Shadow of Chernobyl, SP-5 rounds are all-around better than the low-tier PAB-9 ammunition in most regards: it features higher effective range, accuracy, stopping power and armor penetration. Its only downside it that it causes the weapon to degrade significantly faster, by 25%.

Locations[]

In Shadow of Chernobyl, this ammunition is very common amongst Monolith soldiers in Pripyat, at the Chernobyl NPP, inside the Sarcophagus, and in the Monolith Control Center. One can obtain some of this ammunition earlier in the game by doing some jobs for Duty, but eventually they start supplying the player with 9x39mm SP-6 rounds. After completing the mission Obtain an Bulldog 6 from Freedom, Colonel Petrenko will sell these bullets in decent quantities, anywhere from 30 to 150 rounds. Eight bullets can be found loaded in Big Ben.

9x39mm SP-5 ammunition is implemented in the files of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, complete with its model and inventory icon, although it doesn't have an inventory name nor a description due to the associated strings being missing. This suggests it was considered in early development but was cut from the final release of the game.

Unlike 7.62x54mm BP ammunition, SP-5 rounds do not exist anywhere in-game but can be spawned with the use of modifications, although they cannot be used by any weapon.

According to the game files, they are similar to 9x39mm SP-6 ammunition in terms of performance, although they feature higher stopping power in exchange for lower accuracy and armor penetration.

Call of Pripyat[]

SP-5 ammunition does not appear in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat proper; however, the 9x39mm PAB-9 ammunition uses its name, likely as a result of developer oversight.
