Gameplay tips for AKm 74/2U.
Shadow of Chernobyl[]
The AK74/2U is a useful starters weapon and can easily be acquired after finishing the Retrieve flash drive mission at the begining of the game. After the said mission it can be found in the hands of bandits that inhabit the Abandoned Car Park along with Viper 5 SMGs in a 1:2 ratio. Finding ammo for the AK74/2U may be difficult in the Cordon and Garbage unless you want to raid the military checkpoint and risk complete armour degradation, so you might want to hang onto that Viper 5 you've been keeping in your inventory until you can reach the Agroprom Research Institute. The AKSU will only last you for the initial battle after which you can equip a vastly supperior AK-74. However you use the rifle, it still remains an easily handled little peashooter that can last you all the way to Rostok.
- NOTE: The Barkeep sells top quality AKS-74U when you first arrive so you might want to stash your worn down AKS-74U for sentimental value.
Call of Pripyat[]
It is recommended that the player abandons this weapon at the start (or trades it), since a full sized AKS-74N can be found in the beginning of the game, in the hands of Zombified Stalkers, Bandits, or Loners. Even a superior AN-94 can be found at the start of the game.
When fully upgraded it can serve as fall-back weapon, but due to lack of accuracy at mid- to long- ranges, it is best to fire in short bursts.
