― In-game description

The Altered Insulator is a mission artifact that can be found only in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Description[]

This strange artifact is what used to be an insulator, which has been transformed into an artifact by unknown means. It is believed to be the source of the intense, intermittent psi-emissions inside the Northwestern tunnel in Jupiter. This artifact is the only one which weighs 1.0 kg instead of 0.5 kg like all the others.

Acquisition[]

This artifact is the target of the mission Intermittent psy-emissions given by Professor Hermann. It is found on the floor in the northwestern tunnel and only spawns when the associated side quest has been taken; detectors will also pick up this artifact. A mobile Tesla as well as a few Electro anomalies must be circumnavigated prior to finding it. Note that after picking this artifact up, a controller will spawn in the train car at the tunnel entrance and will start a scripted sequence to take control of Topol's squad; therefore, one should ready their weapons for the encounter.

The Altered Insulator will appear in one of the containers inside the Scientists' bunker once it has been given to Hermann.
