Anabiotics
Anabiotics are a rare medicinal item introduced in Call of Pripyat. Despite their rarity they're cheap to sell and thus a player may be more inclined to keep them, as they weigh almost nothing.
Effects
The purpose of anabiotics is simple: to survive the Blowout. Ingesting the Anabiotics during the lead up to a Blowout allows the player to survive unscathed even if he's nowhere near shelter. The obvious drawback is that the player is knocked unconscious - if he's under attack when he goes under, the enemies may kill him in his sleep. Aside from this, the Anabiotics serve no purpose, and have no effect when used outside of a Blowout. After using them three times you earn the Marked by Zone Achievement and no longer need anabiotics so long as you are fully healthy when the blowout strikes.
Acquiring Anabiotics
The Anabiotics can only be earned through a handful of ways:
- In a Controller's cave north of the Burnt Farm Anomaly in Zaton.
- In a cache in Zaton - at the dead end of drainage pipe the player uses to escape the Bloodsucker's Lair.
- In a cache in Yanov - under a tree east from the Controller tunnel.
- As a reward for Poplar's Ecologist quests (x2).
- For sale from the Ecologists after earning the Researcher and Friend of Stalkers achievements.
- Bookstore and Department store in Pripyat.
Trivia
- The Anabiotics can serve a rather dastardly purpose. While for the most part, A-Life automatically simulates stalkers running to shelter and taking cover, using Anabiotics pauses the A-Life for the duration, just like sleeping. Any stalker not in shelter within the player's viewing range - roughly a 150m radius - will therefore be killed by the Blowout when Anabiotics are used, at no penalty to the player. Note that most "special"(quest-related) NPCs are immune to Blowouts.
- It is odd that so many Anabiotics can be found in the game world, since the description of Pioneer achievement suggests that the Ecologists were not previously able to create them. This is probably an oversight, just like buying Svarog from Hermann before it is actually created by Novikov.
