An army shotgun designed specifically for assault units on the basis of the SPSA-14. Capable of automatic fire like its predecessor, but provides better recoil compensation thanks to a balanced shock free system.
― In-game description

The Carabiner is a unique variant of the SPSA-14 shotgun featured only in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Performance

The performance is comparable to the Eliminator. The main difference between a normal SPSA-14 and the Carabiner is the reduced recoil. The Carabiner also benefits from a considerably higher rate of fire (higher than any other shotgun in the game), therefore it is a great weapon to use against mutants. The stock capacity has been increased from 8 to 10 shells, after upgrades it will have the same 12-round capacity as the Eliminator.

The only advantage the Eliminator has over the Carabiner is the fact that the latter cannot mount a SUSAT scope. Although, unless one heavily weighs on the use of slug rounds than buckshot for medium-range combat where a SUSAT scope would have effective use, a sight mount is not all that necessary on a pure close-combat weapon as the iron sights are more than enough for aiming at narrow areas and very close targets.

Location

This weapon can only be purchased from Nimble, by asking for a close range weapon. You may or may not get this weapon on your first request. Buying any gun from Nimble triggers a side quest with Snag, who will attempt to take your gun away claiming it is his.

Trivia

  • In some translations, it's called "Carabineer".
  • Its name could be a reference to the Italian Army division of the Carabinieri (Carabiners) working in the police and law enforcement sector; this is also suggested by the fact that the Franchi SPAS-12 was designed in Italy.
