Appearances[]
Shadow of Chernobyl[]
Charon resides in the basement of the Palace of Culture in Pripyat, surrounded by many of his fellow Monolith stalkers. He never leaves the basement to fight off enemy forces, even when the building is assaulted by the player or other NPCs. He does not play any role in the story and can be entirely avoided altogether.
In Greek mythology, Charon is the name of the ferryman of Hades, whose task is to convey the souls of the dead across the River Acheron, a segment of the River Styx, the boundary of the Earth from the Greek Underworld. Perhaps the name may have been chosen to symbolise Stalkers being inducted into the Monolith.
Other than Strider and the members of his group, Charon is the only member of the Monolith in the series with a unique name.
According to design documents for the cancelled S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, Charon and Strider were the same person[non-game. 2].
Like Scar, Charon wields a Vintar BC as his preferred weapon. This led to widespread speculation by fans that Scar could be Charon after surviving the events of Clear Sky but was brainwashed and inducted into the ranks of the Monolith, however S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl debunked this,
