Charon is the leader of the Monolith faction during the events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Appearances

Shadow of Chernobyl

Charon can only be found within the Monolith's headquarters in Pripyat. While he is armed with an Exoskeleton and a VSS Vintorez, he is an easy fight, since for some reason he only fires his Vintorez in semi-automatic bursts. He also chooses to rely on his USP Compact in close quarters. However, he is almost always found with a retinue of Monolith experts protecting him.

The rewards for killing him are unfortunately minimal - ammunition for his weapon, as well as medkits, though he drops substantially more than the average stalker. He is usually found in the basement of the Monolith's HQ. However, Charon is located under the Monolith "sculpture", which has several nice artifacts surrounding it, such as several Night Star artifacts, a Spring, a Kolobok, and after midnight, a Moonlight artifact.

Background

A short bio, that was omitted from final version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl game describes him as follows: [1]

Regular stalker from the Monolith grouping. No details available.

Trivia

  • In Greek Mythology Charon is the name of a Hades' ferryman whose purpose is to convey the souls of the dead across the River Acheron, a segment of the River Styx, the boundary of the Earth from the Greek Underworld.
  • Perhaps, as mentioned above, the name may have been chosen to symbolise Stalkers passing over to the Monolith.
  • Unlike other leaders Charon has no interaction with the player aside from combat, and can actually be entirely avoided.
  • It has been long speculated that Charon is actually Scar, who was taken by the Monolith and due to his prowess was chosen as the leader. The clues are the Vintar BC rifle mentioned above and that he is a unique Monolith NPC in Shadow of Chernobyl. It should be noted however, that there is no current hard evidence to support this claim. In fact, the notion that Charon would be an actual commander of the Monolith most likely stems from the fact that he is the only actual Monolithian character in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series with a unique name, as no real information on the Monolith command structure is available.
