The Ferris Wheel is a location featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

Background[]

The Ferris wheel is part of the Pripyat Amusement Park, which was due to open on May 1, 1986 for the May Day celebration. However, the Chernobyl disaster occured on April 26, 1986. The park was opened for a couple of hours on April 27 to keep the city people entertained before the announcement to evacuate the city was made.[1] The Ferris Wheel was then left standing tall in the ghost town before its official opening, and has became one of the most well-known landmarks of the city.

The park is one of the most irradiated parts of Pripyat, especially where moss has built up.[1]

It is depicted lacking roof sections of the few of its gondolas, while in reality, none of the gondolas currently lack their rooftops. It is also portrayed as being right behind the Hotel Polissya and straight east of the Palace of Culture Energetik, while it is actually located further south of the palace and north-west of the Hotel. Interestingly, the developers never included the second-famous landmark of Pripyat's amusement park - the well-know bumper car site (the Avtodrom), but only the Ferris Wheel together with characteristic Swing boats (the Russian swing), which are erroneously located to the west instead of east of the Wheel itself. The distinctive paratrooper ride called Romashka (located in-between of the Swings boats and the Autodrome in real-life) was also left-out in game.

Appearances[]

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

The Ferris Wheel (along with the amusement park) is one of the landmarks featured in the Shadow of Chernobyl rendition of Pripyat. It is located just east to the Palace of Culture, and north to the Hotel. Most of the gondolas are riddled with Electro anomalies, making approaching the ferris wheel dangerous as the player is likely to get shocked when approaching the platform.

There are a few Monolith fighters around the area. There is a small group standing by a car wreck near the east, and one atop a circular building holding a RPG-7u, just next to the Ferris Wheel. It is also likely that Loners or Duty experts crossing through the city will go through the park to reach the Stadium, and are likely to die from the electro anomalies.

There is no available loot in the area, although there is a Gauss Rifle sniper not far from the Ferris Wheel, atop a building on the eastern map limit. The ferris wheel is the safest way to the Stadium as it has the fewer amount of Monolith fighters, although the player needs to be careful as the eastern lane has three Gauss snipers and one RPG-7u user.

Call of Pripyat[]

CoP Ferris Wheel

The Ferris Wheel is a background element in Yanov and Pripyat, and is in both levels inaccessible due to it being outside the playable area. It can be easily seen in Yanov by standing by the eastern map limit or atop the Cementary. In Pripyat, it can be seen from the rooftop of the Yubileiny Service Center, or from the north-western map limit.

Some random Loners might mention the Ferris Wheel as a potential location for the fabled Oasis.[2]

They also say that there's an artifact there called the Heart of the Oasis... Nobody knows what it does exactly, but one thing's for sure: you shouldn't touch it. Anyone who takes it won't have no place in the Zone no more... Location? Man, everyone knows it's in Pripyat under the Ferris wheel! I mean, where else would it be?"
