What brings you here, brother?
― General Voronin

General Voronin is the leader of Duty during the events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. He is also mentioned in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Background[]

One of the Duty founders and their leading idea-monger. Responsible for the faction's sacred code. He recruited almost all of Duty key members[non-game. 1]. He is a strict and intolerant man with little time to waste, acting agitated and with little patience whenever interacting with the player[non-game. 2].

Voronin came into power after General Krylov. After becoming the leader of Duty, Voronin made a cease-fire pact with the Freedom faction, essentially an agreement to avoid open conflict. While some rogue elements of Duty disobey these orders, he takes no action against them. He most likely made the pact as Duty cannot hold both their territories and the Barrier at the same time. That being the case, the two factions struck a deal to preserve themselves.

Appearances[]

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

He can be found at the Duty base in the Bar. Note that the Marked One won't be able to access the HQ until after he has been to Lab X-16 and talked to the Barkeep. If the player tries to go to Voronin before visiting X16, Duty members in the area will become hostile and fire on sight.

He offers a quest to retrieve a Bulldog 6 from the Army Warehouses, after what he offers a number of side missions.

Related missions[]

Call of Pripyat[]

Voronin does not appear in the game itself but is mentioned in both of Zulu's ending slides, revealing that he is still alive and Duty is still in control of the Bar during the events of Call of Pripyat.

  • If Zulu survives the events of the game, the ending reveals that he had a face-to-face meeting with Voronin, after what he was given the command of a large Duty squad on their way to the center of the Zone.
  • If Zulu is killed during the events of the game, the ending reveals that Voronin chose to posthumously award Zulu with the Silver Shield, Duty's highest decoration.

  • A number of his side missions were cut from the game. In particular, he was meant to give the player the order to kill Lukash, although in the final version of the game, it is Skull that gives this mission[non-game. 3].
  • Voronin was also meant to induct the player into Duty. Although the ability to join Duty was cut from the game, the game's string tables still contain dialogue lines where Voronin has the player swear the oath[non-game. 4].
  • He has a number of unused idle dialogue lines which can be found in the game files[1]:

Hmm... So they'll take the bait and then we'll...

We let the anarchists get away with too much, yeah.

Time to sort this out.

Naturally, the boys are tired. But we can't relax.

Yes.

Yeah.

Right. Better take that on board.

They won't wait.
