Forums: Index > Watercooler > Standardized layout

I have been editing this wiki for some time and noticed a slightly unsettling fact - page layouts vary from article to article and often the infobox is missing. In order to rectify that, I propose an unified layout system, so that we can standardize articles and make any comparisons between items easy.

Armour articles[]

Example

I propose that the layout be:

  • an infobox with all the basic information, such as name, an image showing the suit in-game, protection values in all three games,
  • a short introductory sentence that describes the type (up to three words) and games in which it appears (this shows up when searching and needs to be short and descriptive),
  • an Overview heading, which is, well, an overview of what makes up the suit and basic information about typical uses and users, with an inventory image of the item included under this heading,
  • an Appearances heading, which covers in detail how the suit appears and how is used in the games, with subheadings for each game,
  • a Development heading (where applicable), detailing how the item in question evolved until final release (and even afterwards, if patches changed its appearance),
  • a Gallery heading with images pertaining to the article,
  • a References section whenever references are used,
  • a Links section where applicable,
  • all applicable templates come at the end of the article,
  • proper categorizing - armour by game.

Weapon articles[]

Example

I propose that the layout be:

  • an infobox with all the basic information, such as name, an image showing the weapon in-game, damage and other values in all three games,
  • a short introductory sentence that describes the type and games in which it appears (this shows up when searching and needs to be short and descriptive),
  • an Overview heading, which is, well, an overview, including a short blurb about the history of the weapon, its general properties, users and usage,
  • an Appearances heading, which covers in detail how the weapon appears and how is used in the games, with subheadings for each game,
  • a Development heading (where applicable), detailing how the item in question evolved until final release (and even afterwards, if patches changed its appearance),
  • a Gallery heading with images pertaining to the article,
  • a References section whenever references are used,
  • a Links section where applicable,
  • all applicable templates come at the end of the article,
  • proper categorizing - weapons by game and type.

The appearances/game subheading/ should also have upgrades/variants sub-sub(?) headings a la SVD Chikubitalk

Character articles[]

Example

I propose that the layout be:

  • an infobox with all the basic information, such as name, an image showing the character in-game, equipment and other properties in all three games,
  • a short introductory sentence that describes the character and games in which it appears (this shows up when searching and needs to be short and descriptive),
  • a Background heading, detailing the character's backstory, specialty and traits,
  • an Appearances heading, which covers in detail how the character appears and how interacts with the player in the games, with subheadings for each game,
  • a Development heading (where applicable), detailing how the character in question evolved until final release (and even afterwards, if patches changed its appearance),
  • a Gallery heading with images pertaining to the article,
  • a References section whenever references are used,
  • a Links section where applicable,
  • all applicable templates come at the end of the article,
  • proper categorizing - weapons by game and type.

That'd be all for now, once I prepare model location, mutant and quest articles, I will post them here for further discussion. Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 10:32, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Overall a great guide to article structure, however I think that it should be split into topics on individual categories, so that it's easier to debate individual points/add new ones.

It seems very informative, do you think you can create an example? Boredgunner 17:24, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Examples are included in the links right under the headings. Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 11:42, August 5, 2010 (UTC)
