Free the Dutyer from prison is a mission featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Description[]

Bandits! Those sons of bitches were taking me to the old factory. I don't know what they were planning to do with me there. I saw them take another guy in there before and I never saw him after that. They've got another one of ours, Serega. They keep him in the basement... in that big unfinished building there. Help him, would ya? Otherwise they'll... you know...
Captive Dutyer

Acquiring the mission[]

The mission is given by the Captive Dutyer you save with the help of Bullet in the Dark Valley. So the Free the Dutyer mission needs to be completed in order to obtain this assignment.

Completing the mission[]

The player must storm the main Bandit Base in the Dark Valley, find the cell in the basement and free Shaggy Sergei (the prisoner) from the cell. The cell is unlocked using a yellow, electronic button mounted on the wall adjacent to the cell, which will turn green & beep once activated. The target's coordinates are marked in the player's PDA.

Note, when you enter the bandit base from the far right, you can encounter another Duty member, being held hostage by two bandits that intend to kill him. If you rescue him, give him a weapon, he will storm the entrance of the X-18 lab by himself. This Duty member will become a friend to the Marked One after rescuing him.

Reward[]

There is no reward for completing the mission other than a slight reputation boost for Duty faction.

Bugs[]

  • In a vanilla (unmodded) playthrough, the wall-mounted button will not function (it appears as green) and Shaggy will not exit his cell. A workaround is to exit and re-enter the map; however this workaround only forces the door to unlock superficially, and can only open with a melee attack (the knife), and Shaggy will refuse to exit as if the gate were still shut. [1] This bug is fixed with the Zone Reclamation Project mod and can be used with an existing save on the condition that it's a vanilla playthrough. Here is an instructional video on how to install it.
  • It is possible to get stuck in the cell after opening it, with the entrance being blocked by the Duty scout.
  • If you attack the button on the wall it will explode, leaving one side of a wooden crate on the ground. Doing so before unlocking the cell prevents you from freeing Shaggy.

Background[]

  • In Shadow of Chernobyl version 1.0.0.1, mission can be sometimes completed without player's intervention. This happens likely due to bug.
