GSC Game World is the game developer for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, founded in 1995, and based in Kiev, Ukraine. The first game developed by GSC was Codename: Outbreak, with the Cossacks series the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series following soon after.

History[]

Formation and Popularity[]

In November of 2007, GSC got Developer Rights to make Xbox 360 games, and in September of 2009, they announced a port of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to come to consoles, though only after the release of Call of Pripyat due to low man-power at GSC.

Bankruptcy and Dissolution[]

In December 9, 2011, GSC was dissolved and subsequently, STALKER 2 was cancelled. Many employees, especially those who worked on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, formed two new studios and made new games that were inspired by their past work.

Reformation and the Present[]

In December 2014, 3 years after their closure, GSC reopened and announced a new game in development. They have since then made Cossacks 3, a sequel to their other main long-running series and have also restarted development on STALKER 2, now named S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. (with the subtext at one point reading "Heart of Chernobyl" but changed to "Heart of Chornobyl" to reflect Ukrainian pronunciation following the invasion of Ukraine)
