― Garry
Garry (Ru. Гарик) is a character appearing in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
Background[]
Garry is employed by Professor Hermann's expedition to find artifacts. He describes himself as a trailblazer and claims that he was the first to find a way to Jupiter[quote. 1]. He signed up to work for the scientists in order to get an official permit to stay in the Zone[quote. 2], as he has interest in going to Pripyat due to the myths and legends surrounding the abandoned city[quote. 3]. His job is to find every chemical artifact in existence in the Zone, a mission that he nearly completed if not for the Meat Chunk and Kolobok that he has yet to find[quote. 4].
He was also the one who found Lieutenant Sokolov near the Volkhov AA Complex, whom he rescued from the hordes of Zombified Stalkers occupying the area before he took him inside the scientists' lab[quote. 5]. The two appear to have become friends.
Appearances[]
Call of Pripyat[]
Garry is found inside the Scientists' bunker in Jupiter. Upon talking to the player, he tells them about his contract and provides a mission that requires the player to bring back the two missing artifacts, which Garry will reward the player with money for finding them. Upon completing the mission, Garry disappears from the premises, presumably to look for a passage to Pripyat.
Regardless of whether he completed his contract or not, he appears in the Laundromat in Pripyat after the first part of the mission Unidentified weapon has been completed, having found a new underground passage to Pripyat. His dialogue with the player slightly changes depending on whether the player has completed his mission or not; if they did, he rewards the player with a Bubble artifact for helping him, otherwise he tells the player that he found a way to bail out of his contract somehow. He will also bring Sokolov with him if the player did not hire him for the trip through the Pripyat 1 underpass. Talking to Kovalsky reveals that the two had cut a deal where Garry agreed to provide the military survivors with supplies in exchange for them turning a blind eye to Garry's activities, something the Colonel is not happy with although he notes he doesn't have any other choice[quote. 6].
After that, he becomes the game's only guide alongside Pilot to be able to take the player between Pripyat and other areas of the Zone. He charges 5000 RU for a trip from Yanov to Pripyat, but he will take the player from Pripyat to Yanov for free. In Yanov, he is found inside the main lobby of the station, at the same table as Pilot. In Pripyat, he stays inside the Laundromat, in the entrance room. He can also take the player from Pripyat to Zaton directly with Pilot's assistance; this costs 3000 RU, or 1000 RU after the mission Area Maps has been completed.
After obtaining the Documents concerning item 62, he will reveal to the player that he was forced to escort Mercenaries to Pripyat, and that he barely made out of it alive, which may prompt the player to bring up the issue with Kovalsky and start a new mission, One Shot. Later in the main story, Garry disappears from the Laundromat after the mission Radio interference is completed, as he has gone to Yanov for supplies according to Kirillov. He will not return until the final mission has been completed, returning to his usual spot. After that, he and Pilot are the only two characters who can guide the player out of the Zone, which will unlock the ending sequence.
Related missions[]
- A contract with the scientists: Garry asks the player to bring him a Meat Chunk and a Kolobok so that he can complete his contract with Hermann.
- One Shot: He will tell the player about the mercenaries, which can be brought up to Kovalsky to start the mission proper.
Endings[]

Garry has two possible endings, although they are not tied to his fate but that of the military survivors.
- If at least four of the soldiers survive through the evacuation, the ending reveals that Garry told stalkers about the final shootout, encouraging them to explore the ghost town, securing the Laundromat and making steady progress against the waves of Monolith forces.
- If less than four soldiers survive through the finale, the ending reveals that Garry spread news of the army's fate, which scared stalkers away from Pripyat.
Heart of Chornobyl[]
Garry functions as the guide for Yaniv Station, having remained alongside Bonesetter, Hawaiian, and Degtyarev.

Trivia[]
- Garry appears in the trailer of Call of Pripyat as a guide leading a group of stalkers to Jupiter and then to Pripyat. Him going to Jupiter appears to be canon as he comments he was the first stalker to find a path to Jupiter.
- While the mission Pripyat 1 is active, one can offer Garry to join their group to go to Pripyat, but he will decline, stating that he prefers to work solo.
- Garry is one of the more important secondary characters in Call of Pripyat - the player's actions towards him influences at least three quest lines (the Ecologist, Mercenary, and Military quest lines). He and Yar also become the player's only constant link to the outside world while in Pripyat.

Kovalsky: "As for supplies, it's pretty much the same thing except I've made a deal with Garry. He brings us canned food and we let him stay in the base and look the other way when he's out looking for artifacts... It's not like we have any other choice anyway."
