― Grouse

Grouse (Gluhar / Глухарь) is a Loner stalker appearing in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Background[]

According to Grouse, he used to be a police detective before coming to The Zone. Grouse also co-founded the Skadovsk bar with Beard and acts as the local sheriff in Zaton using his previous experience as a detective.

Appearances[]

Call of Pripyat[]

Grouse is initially found at the Skadovsk, where he provides the player a mission to help investigate the suspicious disappearance of many stalkers in the area. The player is directed by Grouse to find Danila at the Oakpine and then directed to the Antenna complex where he helps the protagonist survive an initial scouting of a deadly bloodsucker lair.

Sadly, Grouse is eventually killed by Tremor at the Dock Cranes during the discovery of Tremor's addiction. Discovering this fact is essential for earning the Detective achievement.

Related missions[]

  • The Hit: Grouse can be informed about the Bandits' impeding raid on the Shevchenko, after what he will alert Spartacus and his men.
  • Missing Stalkers: Grouse hires the player to help him investigate the disappearance of Danila. Later on, Grouse is killed by Tremor after discovering about his involvement in the crimes.
  • Bloodsucker Lair: After discovering a large bloodsucker lair underneath the Krug Antenna Complex, Grouse tells the player to warn Beard about it so that something can be done.

Trivia[]

  • In the Russian version of the game, Grouse is known as "Глухарь", which translates to capercaillie. In the English localization of the game however, this name was rejected for a simple transliteration of the name (Glouchar). For this reason some guides/forums refer to him as Glouchar. The developers eventually chose to go for a similar bird more commonly known in the West and settled for Grouse.
  • A bug occurs when the player sleeps before accepting the mission in which Grouse turns hostile. This will not affect the bloodsucker lair mission. He will, however, open fire at the player as soon as he exits the drainage pipe leading to the swamp. Grouse will remain hostile until killed.
  • Grouse may be a reference to the main character of the Russian TV series Glukhar (Grouse's name in the Russian version of the game) which aired on Russian television in 2008-2011; the protagonist of this series is also a police investigator.
  • In Russian criminal police's slang, "глухарь" means a crime that is very difficult to solve or remains unsolved[1][2].
