It is one of the two ammunition types compatible with the Gauss rifle alongside regular batteries. The only difference between homemade batteries and regular batteries is the weight: while regular batteries weigh 0.5kg per pack of 10 rounds, the homemade batteries weigh just as much for a pack of 6 rounds, increasing their weight per individual round by 66.67%. As well, these batteries can be bought in infinite quantities unlike regular batteries which are found in finite numbers in the game, meaning they will become the player's only source of ammunition for their Gauss rifle once the player's supply of regular batteries has been exhausted.
