International Perimeter Security Force. They’re supposed to protect the Mainland from the ravages of the Zone. In reality, they’re kinda useless. Can’t even keep stalkers like you away.
International Perimeter Security Force is an international military coalition set up to contain the Zone. It appears in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
Background[]
The IPSF succeeded the units of the Ukrainian military responsible for securing and containing the Zone,[2] following its expansion.[3]
Organization[]
Personnel employed by the IPSF are governed by the Code of Professional Ethics and the IPSF statute, which among others includes the duty to protect the Perimeter from mutants and armed groups, prevent crossings, assisting scientists, and acting with impartiality (at least officially). Personnel are specifically banned from entering anomalies and handling artifacts (unless ordered to).[4] In practice, a lot depends on the commanding officer and one Cpt. Sukhin of the Sphere is notorious for his corruption, trading in illicit artifacts, robbing stalkers, and of course retaliating against soldiers under his command who show some integrity.[5]
Duga is one of the principal centers of IPSF's activities.[6]
Relations[]
The Ward is the official law enforcement within the Zone and has standing orders not to use force against the IPSF, although it does not mean using third parties against them.[7] While the IPSF is technically supposed to deal with stalkers and other incursions, in practice there's a silent agreement about the IPSF turning a blind eye to stalkers as long as they behave themselves and don't bother the military.[8] Bribes also play a critical role in such conditional blindness.[9]
Technology[]
The IPSF is a government-backed organization and relies on standardized military equipment and vehicles, typically of Warsaw Pact provenance. Soldiers use either the AKM-74/2U or AKM-74/2 with a PM as sidearm, and vehicles used are the UAZ-469, Ural trucks, BMP-2 IFVs, Mi-17 transport helicopters and the T-64BV tanks in solid green IPSF livery.
Interactions[]
IPSF inherits the role of the military from the previous games, with similar equipment and expendability.

Now that the route is no longer hindered by anomalous fields, certain daredevils frequently try to explore the enormous antenna. Their attempts are usually thwarted not by mysterious signals but by ordinary bullets fired by IPSF snipers. The military diligently guards the Duga, preventing anyone from discovering its purpose."

- ↑ Joke: "The stalker pauses, then says, “Okay. I wish IPSF would stop demanding bribes from stalkers entering the Zone.” The Controller goes, “Are you nuts, man? I said Controller, not a damn genie!”"
