The army has suspended all flights into the Zone, so there won't be any trouble from that side. When stalkers find a way to Pripyat we'll send a guide and wait for the client's people there - they'll show us where the lab is.
― Jackal's instructions to his men

Jackal is a mercenary leader who appears in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Background[]

Jackal is the commander of a large Mercenary expedition into the Zone with the objective of discovering the location of Lab X-8 on the behalf of an unknown client. As the city of Pripyat is off-limits at the start of the game, he decided to deploy his men at multiple locations in the vicinity of Pripyat, namely in Zaton and Yanov, waiting for the stalkers to find a way to Pripyat so that they can go there.

He appears to have extensive connections with high-ranking people and politicians, as he managed to have a prominent Ukrainian research institute appoint Black and his team as the security detail for Professor Hermann's expedition, a role that was intended to prevent the Ecologists from gaining access to data about Project 62, among others.

Appearances[]

Call of Pripyat[]

Jackal is mentioned in various documents and PDAs that can be salvaged from the Mercenaries under his command, namely the Mercenary notebook and Black's PDA. He only appears during the mission One Shot where he is an assassination target along with Serbin. He meets Serbin in the courtyard of the Apartment Complex, where he can be killed with a sniper rifle.

Jackal's position can be a bit hard to determine, as he is not the one who stands still near the doorway the Mercenaries filter out of, unlike what Kirillov states. He instead joins the patrols clearing the area and makes sure that it's secure before he talks with Serbin. Rarely this may complicate things as he might bump into a mutant (a Bloodsucker often roams by the complex), ruining the meeting by getting himself attacked.

Whether he dies or not does not affect the rest of the game, and the mission can be completed by killing Serbin alone, although this will reduce the reward from Kovalsky for completing the assassination.
