Did you hear about the Kopachy village? When the original disaster hit the Chernobyl NPP, that area got it so bad that they decided to bury the whole village. Nothing but small radioactive mounds there now, in place of houses. They say it was an eerie place even before the disaster; I shudder to think what one might find there nowadays. Everyone's too scared to check it out. But what if they're wrong - it could be an artifact goldmine for all we know!
― Stalkers' description
Kopachy (Ru. Копачи, Uk. Копачі) is a location in the area around Jupiter in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.
Overview[]
The location is set in the remains of a village in the vicinity of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, heavily contaminated by radioactive fallout after the Chernobyl disaster, to the point that Soviet authorities decided to demolish the houses and bury them. This was an experiment, carried out in multiple villages in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. In Call of Pripyat, most houses in the village were demolished, save for a large house in the northern part of the village. The village is surrounded by a damaged fence with multiple radioactive hazard warning signs, and within the village is an excavator that was part of the village's burial operation.
Though Kopachy is a real-life location, the game places it in the vicinity of Yanov station and the Jupiter factory, when in reality the village is located much further away, to the south of the Chernobyl NPP and close to the Pripyat river. Much like its in-game rendition, most houses in the village were demolished, save for the village's kindergarten and another building. In addition, the village had a WW2 memorial monument which was not recreated in-game.
Appearances[]
Call of Pripyat[]
The village is home to numerous Zombified Stalkers, and the village itself is heavily irradiated, making the use of drugs necessary for a player wishing to venture in the village itself. Despite the radiation and the stalkers' imagination, there are no anomalies nor artifacts at the village.
Yar in Yanov station provides a mission that requires the player to escort him into the village so that he can snipe a group of Mercenaries that caught him overhearing their conversation about Lab X-8. Uniquely for the game, the zombies will not be hostile to the player and Yar provided they are not provoked or attacked, and will simply concentrate their fire on the mercs. Once the mission is completed, the zombies will vanish, making Kopachy entirely empty save for the occasional visiting stalkers or wandering mutants.
While providing cover for the scientists' field research team in the Ash Heap anomaly, zombified stalkers will attack the group from Kopachy. They will regularly spawn in waves at the village, until the stalkers' research is done.
