The Lightning Ball is an electric-type anomaly, making its debut in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
General characteristics[]
The Lightning Ball closely resembles the Tesla anomaly from Call of Pripyat, appearing as a large glowing orb of electricity. Within its vicinity, it moves along a fixed, open and looping path at its location.
Upon contact, the anomaly deals high damage in an electric explosion, where it will disappear for several seconds before reforming at its starting position, repeating the cycle again.
However, when the player equips any artifacts, the Lightning Ball will actively chase the player within its set range. Unequipping artifacts will cause it to return to and resume its fixed path. Dropping an artifact will also attract the anomaly, causing it to temporarily stall for several seconds as it "absorbs" the artifact.
The Lightning Ball is first encountered in the sewer tunnels of the Lesser Zone during the introductory section, where Skif must place detectors as ordered by Professor Hermann.
It does not react to bolts nor produce any artifacts.
In short, the Lightning Ball is a stronger, more dangerous, and deadlier replacement for the Tesla.
Trivia[]
- There is a real life but rare phenomena sharing the same name as this anomaly. According to eye-witnesses and reports, it would appear as a bright ball of light occasionally appearing during thunderstorms. Its size typically ranged several centimetres, and would fly around randomly, lasting only for several seconds before exploding. Currently, the phenomena is still unexplained, despite thousands of reports since the 1900s due to its extreme rarity and short lifespan.
