There used to be a military base and army warehouses here, but the emission hit them real hard. Those who survived ain't so cocky no more - they're hiding from stalkers in their base, scared shitless of showing their faces. They keep requesting an evacuation team from their HQ, but nobody is coming to help them. I figure they ain't having themselves too good a time outside the Zone either. That or the signal simply ain't getting through. I almost feel sorry for the poor bastards - they're rats and all, but even rats should stick up for their own.

The Military base is a location in the Army Warehouses in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky.

Overview[]

A large military base located in the heart of the Army Warehouses, which used to be among the Military's main facilities within the Zone. The base is surrounded by a large concrete fence and contains multiple barracks in various states of disrepair, a railway line with a collapsed tunnel, and several watchtowers.

The base and its surrounding area were well under control by the army until the Second Emission that marks the beginning of Clear Sky. The base, being one of the closest military facilities to the center of the Zone, was hit particularly hard, causing numerous casualties among the base personnel. To make matters worse, the emission caused the emergence of particularly strong psi fields around the base, causing additional casualties by the means of zombification. By 2011, the base personnel is down to a few dozens soldiers. The survivors have been using the base's antenna to frequently transmit SOS signals which were never responded to, although local stalkers are unsure whether the signals were correctly transmitted or if the hierarchy chose to ignore them.

In 2011, the military and the zombies were eliminated for good by a Freedom strike team led by Kostyan. Freedom eventually relocated its headquarters from the Dark Valley to the Military base at some point between 2011 and 2012.

Appearances[]

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

In Shadow of Chernobyl, the Military base serves as the Freedom headquarters, where the faction's most important personnel (such as their leader, Lukash) is located. Unlike the Duty base, Freedom grants the player access to the base regardless of storyline progression.

The base isn't involved in the main storyline but plays a role in a number of side quests. In particular, it is the target of Colonel Skull and his squad, who are planning an incursion into the base to kill Lukash and cripple Freedom's capabilities. The player may join Skull's assault, or tip Lukash off about the impeding raid which will prompt him to have Max launch a counterattack on Skull's team.

The player can obtain various side quests from the characters at the base and trade with Skinflint. The central building also contains the Freedom armory, which is normally inaccessible to the player without turning Freedom hostile, as there is a guard blocking the entrance.

Clear Sky[]

In Clear Sky, the Military base plays a role in the storyline. By the events of the game, the military is still in charge of the base, although in reduced numbers due to the aftermath of the emission at the beginning of the game. The base is also home to Zombified Stalkers.

Scar is informed by Hog about the base and its transmission tower, which might be of use to help Leshiy's team escape from the Space Anomaly they are trapped in, by transmitting coordinates with the help of a Compass artifact. Refusing to openly engage the military, Hog directs Scar towards a Freedom strike team led by Kostyan, which had set their sights on the base for some time. Kostyan and Scar assault the base, enabling the former to establish a permanent Freedom presence in the facility. Scar later uses the transmission tower to help Leshiy escape the anomaly.

Most of the location is identical to its Shadow of Chernobyl rendition, although the signs of Freedom's presence are obviously no longer present. Most of the watchtowers (save for the one with the antenna) are riddled with powerful psi fields.

Loot[]

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

The two guards at the entrance, Leshiy and Twig, hold each a modified assault rifle, the Sniper SGI. A PSO-1 scope can be obtained from Screw by trading in a Cossacks vodka bottle. The easternmost barracks contain a Vintar BC. Chef's building contains an Obokan and large amounts of food.

The Freedom armory is found at the ground level of the main building, on the northern side, behind a grated door which can be unlocked by shooting it open. It is very difficult to gain access to the armory without turning Freedom hostile, as there is a Freedom stalker guarding the entrance to the armory that will most certainly have to be killed to get past him. For more details about dealing with the armory guard, see this page. The armory contains the following items:

Clear Sky[]

The armory also appears in Clear Sky, although there are no constraints to access it given the hostile Military controls the base. It contains the following items:

Trivia[]

  • In Shadow of Chernobyl, a small section of the western wall can be destroyed. Normally, Skull's team uses explosives to blow the wall open, but it can be destroyed with a knife attack at any time.
  • The Military base is seen twice in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat; once in the intro slides, and the second time in Vano's good ending.
