Man, don't ask! It was my own fault. The bandits warned me about it but you know... They started demanding a share of my loot, but the Zone don't belong to nobody, so why should I pay them?
― Mitay

Mitay is a character who appears in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Background[]

Mitay was one of the first stalkers arrive at Yanov. He fortified the train station so other Stalkers could shelter there during an emission. This quickly led to the station becoming the central hub for Stalkers in the area.

At some point later on, Mitay and his friends Grizzly and Torba were exploring the area when they encountered a group of Bandits led by Shishak. Shishak demanded a cut of revenue from the artifacts stalkers find. Mitay and his crew responded negatively, owing to the independent nature of Loners. This prompted Shishak to kidnap Mitay and hold him for ransom when the former was out venturing on his own.

Appearances[]

Call of Pripyat[]

Mitay is found at the Container Warehouse in Yanov, being held hostage by Shishak and his bandits. Grizzly provides the player with a mission that requires them to rescue him. Grizzly advocates for liberating Mitay by force, while Torba argues that they should comply with Shishak's demands and pay the ransom.

Depending on the player's selected way of completing the mission, Mitay's rescue operation has different scenarios. If the player chooses to solve the problem diplomatically, then they will simply have to escort Mitay to the entrance of the warehouse, after which he will return to Yanov Station. Alternatively, if the player chooses to assault the warehouse, then Shishak will attempt to kill Mitay instead of letting him go, forcing the player to quickly intervene and eliminate Shishak before he gets Mitay.

If the player decides to intervene, Mitay's disposition towards the player will vary depending on how he was freed.

  • "Man, I thought I was gonna die here... Wow, did Grizzly and Torba hire all these people?! Holy cow! I ain't seen a shootout like that in my life! Can we get out of here now?" - if the player pursues Grizzly's suggestion of assaulting the Bandit compound with a team of hired Stalkers.
  • "Man, I thought this was gonna be the end of me... Wow, you took on all these bandits on your own! You da man! They won't believe me when I tell this story... Can we get out of here now?" - if the player kills all the bandits without assistance.
  • "Thanks for paying the ransom for me! I won't forget it." - if the player pays Mitay's ransom out of his own pocket.
  • "Thanks for freeing me, stalker! I won't forget it."
  • "Thanks for helping to pay the ransom for me!" - if the player pursues Torba's suggestion of paying off Mitay's ransom with a rare artifact.
  • "Thanks for helping to free me, stalker!"
  • "Thanks for helping, stalker... My friends will definitely reward you when we get back... Let's go to the base together, it'll be quicker that way." - if the player kills all the bandits without assistance.

Upon returning to Yanov, Mitay can be questioned as to how he was captured. He can also be hired to become Professor Hermann's new field research team if Topol and his men have been killed beforehand.

Adversely, if Mitay is killed, his friends will grieve his loss.

Related missions[]

  • Hostage: Mitay must be rescued from the Bandits, peacefully or by force.
  • Research group: Mitayand his teammates are one of the potential candidates for the Ecologists' field research group.

Trivia[]

  • In S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, there is a character with the same name who functions as the trader for Duty. However, they are not the same and it has also stated in developer interviews that these are two are different characters.
  • Mitay is the only Loner in the game that remains neutral to the player even after obtaining the achievements A Friend of Stalkers and One of Ours. This is most likely due to a bug or a developer oversight.
  • There is a bug in which the player can talk to Mitay about returning to Yanov, at the door of the station itself. If the Major agrees, Mitay will simply stand still in his place, and the player will not be able to do anything.
  • If the player hires Mitay's crew for the role of Topol's group as researchers for the scientists, then he will receive exactly the same equipment (PMm, AKM-74/2, Veles detector) Topol was issued. This will happen even if he picks up any other weapon before.
  • Even after he accepts and actively leads the research group, there will be a dialogue option with him for a proposal of work for the scientists.
