'I have conveyed the will of the Monolith to his disciples...'
― Monolith Fighter's PDA

The Monolith Fighter, while having a randomly generated name, is seemingly one of the figurehead leaders (the other being the Preachers) of the Monolith force in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Appearances

Call of Pripyat

This particular Monolith expert takes the role of a Preacher during the final confrontation, leading the ground forces that attempt to keep Col. Kowalski and Strelok from escaping the Zone. While his name is randomly generated, his behavior is not - he will always approach from a particular route regardless of the player's movement (unlike the others, he marches in the open rather then through the bushes), and leads the other forces in their chants.

It is also unlikely that he will die in this mission, and tends to remain alive if the player chooses to continue the game in free-play, falling back to the Pripyat docks to regroup with any other survivors. He will resume his preaching and chanting if he sees the player, or any other hostile, and will continue to do so until the player can finally overcome him and the other Monolith in the area. After his death, he drops the only Monolith PDA in canon. This PDA gives the player the location of the only two Gauss Rifle stashes in the entire game - something that is extremely important considering the quality of the batteries within compared to Cardan's jury-rigged system.

Identifying the Fighter

Initially, he'll make use of a Vintar BC, much like previous users he will prefer to fire it either semi-automatic or in short bursts, making it rather distinct. He also carries a Protecta shotgun loaded with slug shells as a sidearm, making him extremely dangerous at close range as well. If the player moves quickly enough they can intercept him at the docks and kill him there - but this risks losing most of your escort to the snipers around the helicopter. He may also equip an Exoskeleton; only one other Monolithian will have one during the evacuation. However he may simply wear the Exoskeleton's heavy armor instead, not the Exoskeleton itself.

Before the evacuation he can be found inside the building overlooking the docks - he will often be in prayer at the top of some stairs, looking out over the water. He can be easily killed if he is in this state. Otherwise he stands in the ground floor, patrolling while others go through a similar routine. He is usually the only one wearing an exoskeleton. During the evacuation - if he is not in prayer, he can sometimes be one of the monolith fighters attacking you which can be dangerous for you and your team so its best to identify and target him first before he gets too close.

Notes

  • The Fighter's PDA confirms that, while they are brainwashed, the Monolith are still capable of higher reasoning and even emotions, unlike zombified stalkers - and that even without C-Consciousness guiding them, the Monolith itself still somehow guides them.
  • The Fighter may appear prior to the final mission being started, but the only way to make him reliably spawn is to begin it - a shame since the batteries would be a huge help.
  • He's also the only fighter to make use of the Vintar BC, much like Charon, another Monolith figurehead. However, this Fighter evidently considers it a terrible weapon as he will usually just drop it in favor of an AS VAL or OTs-14 Groza dropped by one of his brethren, and failing that will instead rely upon his Protecta.
  • Like Jackal, this fighter has extremely high durability even for his armor. It will take a fairly long firefight to take him down if you don't catch him at prayer.
