Night vision refers to special goggles that allow images to be produced in levels of light approaching total darkness. In Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky it is installed on armors and suits, while in Call of Pripyat it's only installed on helmets and armor including a helmet, such as the exoskeleton. Furthermore, since the introduction of the upgrade system in Clear Sky, night vision must be explicitly installed by a technician, in contrast with it being readily available in Shadow of Chernobyl.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl[edit | edit source]
In Shadow of Chernobyl, night vision is readily installed on most suits the player can obtain. Several basic suits have Gen I, while rare and more advanced suits (mostly scientific suits, like SEVA suit and its faction counterparts or SSP-99 series) sport Gen II night vision. Gen I provides only basic light amplification, resulting in a relatively low-resolution and blurry image, making this model near useless. Gen II greatly improves image quality with much better light amplification and higher resolution. Gen I night vision has a green tint, while Gen II has a blue one.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky[edit | edit source]
With the upgrade system introduced in Clear Sky, night vision is no longer installed by default on most suits, and instead must be upgraded by a technician. It is improved in comparison with it's predecessors from Shadow of Chernobyl. Gen I is still supported by all basic armors, and has a clearer picture than in Shadow of Chernobyl. Gen II can only be installed on higher Tier suits, and just like in Shadow of Chernobyl, it has a brighter, clearer image with a blue hue. The SEVA Suit has a unique variation of night-vision as it displays the surroundings in only white and black. Though, how much is seen is completely dependent on how lit up the surroundings are. EX: It's the middle of the night and you're in the Red Forest with night-vision on, but not be able to see your surroundings until you come up on a campfire or spot NPC's with their flashlights on. Note: even when spotting a light source from a distance, you will not be able to see anything (literally a black screen) until you get close to the source. This night-vision variation is not available as an upgrade for any other armour and comes built-in the SEVA Suit.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat[edit | edit source]
In Call of Pripyat, night vision is no longer installed on suits, but only on helmets (or suits with helmets). Gen I remains green, grainy and low-resolution, with only basic light amplification. Gen II also has a green tint, but is noticeably improved with higher resolution of the image and much better lighting distance. Gen III is also introduced, exclusive to the Sphere-12M Helmet; it reduces saturation from bright lights.
