First time here? I'm relatively new here myself. The name's Nitro. I work with equipment. I can repair anything you need. But getting some good tools is a problem around here. If you see anything, bring it straight to me. And, if you need any technical help, come see me and I'll be glad to do what I can for you.
― Nitro welcoming the player to Yanov station
Nitro (Ru. Азот) is the technician of Yanov station in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.
Background[]
Nitro was a long-time resident at the Bar prior to the events of Call of Pripyat. While there, he assembled a radio jammer to filter out the regular loudspeaker announcements that were constantly keeping him awake[quote. 1]. He moved to Yanov station shortly before the events of the game begin. He is friends with a stalker named Senka, whom he met while making his way through Zaton[quote. 2].
Though he knows how to repair and upgrade weapons and armor, Nitro is proficient in electronics, and radio equipment in particular[quote. 3]. It is also said that he knows how to crack PDAs[quote. 4].
Although affiliated with the Loners, Nitro is sympathetic to Duty, who employs him for a variety of tasks[quote. 5]. As such, when consulted regarding Morgan's PDA and General Tachenko's PDA, he advises giving both to Shulga. Similarly, when asked about who could provide bodyguards for the Ecologists, he would recommend raising the issue with Shulga.
Appearances[]
Call of Pripyat[]
Nitro is the first character to greet the player upon initial arrival at Yanov station. He introduces himself as the resident technician. Like Cardan, he needs tools to facilitate more advanced equipment upgrades.
Nitro gives a separate side mission that involves collecting radio materials from the nearby Cement factory for his work. Giving him these materials nets the player a permanent discount on repairs and upgrades. He also has an assistant, Senka, who mostly sleeps in the corner of his workshop.
Nitro is the only character who can extract the data from the black box of the Stingray 1 helicopter. He later plays a more important role in the story, as he is needed to operate the Jupiter plant's back-up generator and unseal the entrance to the Pripyat 1 underpass.
Offer[]
Unlike Cardan, Nitro does not need any vodka to perform upgrades, but his offer is restricted by how many toolkits the player brought him. Right off the start, he can only perform a few upgrades; the Tools for basic work, Tools for fine work and Calibration tools respectively unlock tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 upgrades. Bringing all toolkits to Nitro unlocks the achievement Hi-Tech Expert, and he becomes the only technician to be able to upgrade the Tactical helmet with the target identification modification, which enables the player to detect nearby enemies on the minimap.
He is unable to repair the Gauss rifle until the mission Unidentified weapon has been completed.
Nitro can offer discounts for his pricing, depending on several conditions:
- Each item brought back from the Cement factory as part of the mission Radio equipment reduces his prices by 2%, for a maximum discount of 20%.
- Obtaining the achievement A Friend of Freedom increases his prices by 15%.
- On the other hand, obtaining the achievement A Friend of Duty reduces his prices by 15%.
This means that by completing Radio equipment and having the achievement A Friend of Duty, Nitro offers a 35% discount on all his services.

- Tools: Nitro asks the player to bring him toolkits to extend his upgrade abilities.
- Radio equipment: Nitro wants the player to retrieve radio equipment from the Cement factory.
- Stingray 1: investigate the crash site: Nitro is the only technician in the game that can decrypt Stingray 1's black box.

Although Nitro does not have an ending slide proper, he is mentioned in Cardan's good ending slide (which is unlocked by completing the mission Three Comrades). It reveals that Nitro and Cardan have set up a workshop to build a vehicle that could operate in the Zone's harsh environment.

Trivia[]
- Nitro is known as Azot in the description of the achievements A Friend of Duty, A Friend of Freedom and Hi-Tech Expert, which is a transliteration of his Russian/Ukrainian name. Both names are references to the chemical element nitrogen.
- According to the design documents, in a cut ending, he and Garry venture deeper into Pripyat where they would hack bank accounts.
