In later interviews, it was revealed that it was planned that after the events of ''S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Oblivion Lost,'' the Zone would spread beyond its original borders in the second installment of the series. Later, Andriy Prokhorov elaborated the plot in more detail: the Zone would take over most of Ukraine, Belarus and a small part of Russia, but the plot would mainly take place in Kyiv and its metro network.

==Development history==
The mastermind behind the story is Andriy Prokhorov, who promoted the idea of expanding the anomalous zone beyond Chornobyl. This was partly because the creation of ''S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Oblivion Lost'' caused difficulties in terms of open world and life simulation, which was solved by creating linear gameplay. The plot of the proposed future game was going to be revealed at the end of the first game or in the form of a separate video, if the developers were out of time.
