The SGI-5k is a 5.56mm assault rifle that appears in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.
Appearances[]
Shadow of Chernobyl[]
A relatively new assault rifle for the 5.56x45 mm SS109 round. This weapon is very popular due to its accuracy, soft recoil, and high reliability.
― Shadow of Chernobyl in-game description
The main drawback of the SGI 5k that it can't mount a SUSAT scope but in almost every other aspect it wins against other assault rifles - it is highly accurate (as good as the TRs 301 and the GP37), it has a shorter reload time than other NATO weapons and is also one of the most (if not the most) durable non-unique weapon in game. The SGI remains accurate and doesn't jam as frequently as other rifles when its condition goes below 70%. It can mount an M203 grenade launcher which makes it even better as a mid-range combat rifle especially when dealing with the more powerful mutants or groups of stalkers. However it is a heavy weapon, weighing at a hefty 4 kg when unloaded.
Acquisition[]
The SGI 5k is commonly used by veteran and expert-ranked members of the Mercenaries and Freedom factions as well as some veteran-ranked soldiers of Monolith during the final battle atop the Chernobyl NPP's superstructure. The player can also obtain an SGI in the Army Warehouses area from the veteran Freedom squad leader that will be ambushed by Skull's company upon entering the area, although the chances of finding it in good condition are somewhat low.
It is purchasable from Skinflint, and Barkeep after giving him the Documents from Lab X16. One SGI 5k is given as a reward after the successful completion of the mission Clear the village.
It can be found in the following stash: Arny's secret stash in the Bar area.

Unique variants[]
- Sniper SGI - an unique variant with integrated SUSAT scope.
- Storming SIP - a unique variant that was cut from the final release of the game but can still be found in the game files. It is lighter than the stock SGI 5k but cannot mount a grenade launcher.
Clear Sky[]
A relatively new Swiss-made assault rifle that uses the NATO round. The weapon's precision, soft release and high reliability account for its global popularity. Uses 5.56x45 mm ammo.
― In-game description
In Clear Sky, the SGI 5k assumes a slightly new design, having been recolored to match its inventory icon. It now weighs 0.5 kg more than it did in Shadow of Chernobyl.
The SGI can be upgraded to mount both an underbarrel grenade launcher and a SUSAT scope. It shares the same upgrades as all the 5.56mm caliber assault rifles. It performs particularly well for any role it is upgraded to, however for the player's turning speed is slightly, but noticeably reduced which could lead it to being harder to use in close-range combat although it works well as a marksman weapon. It makes for an excellent 5.45x39mm conversion weapon as it far outstrips any Warsaw Pact rifle in overall stats.
Acquisition[]
The SGI 5k can be purchased from Ashot after joining the Freedom faction. Experienced Monolithians, and Veteran Freedom stalkers and Mercenaries use this weapon.
There are a few SGI 5ks found in stashes in the Army Warehouses, one is in a stump where the coordinates are from an unknown stalker and Hog can also provide the location of one in the actual Military base for around 3000 rubles, which is located in the attic of a barracks structure.

Unique variants[]
- SGI 5.45 - a unique SGI 5k modified to fire 5.45x39mm ammunition that was cut from the final release of the game.
- Chekhov gives the player a SGI 5k with the SUSAT scope mount modification pre-installed for joining Freedom.
- A unique SGI 5k can be obtained in Major Zvyagintsev's shooting range. Like all other shooting range guns, it can only fire in semi-automatic mode and has pre-installed upgrades to improve the weapon's accuracy and damage at the cost of fire rate and bullet velocity.
- Two unused SGI 5ks (named wpn_sig_no_draw_sound and wpn_sig_with_scope) can be found in the game files. They are identical to the stock SGI 5k except for two differences: the former has a significantly quieter draw sound and the latter has a built-in SUSAT scope. Both weapons were meant to appear in a cutscene involving the Ecologists at the Generators in the beta version of the game.
Call of Pripyat[]
A relatively new assault rifle that has quickly found admirers around the world, despite lacking a "trendy" design. Weapons of this series are one of the best in their class, renowned for their reliability, accuracy and ease of use. Despite being relatively difficult to obtain in the Zone, this assault rifle is often ordered by experienced stalkers at considerable expense.
― Call of Pripyat in-game description
In Call of Pripyat, the SGI is fully optimized as an assault rifle. It lost its ability to mount a SUSAT scope although it can now mount a M203 grenade launcher without any modifications. At stock configuration, the SGI has great damage and accuracy, average recoil and above-average durability. The weapon's performance at close range is exceptional, especially when fully modified for maximum firing rate and low recoil, however it is still hampered by the fact that it doesn't support any sights meaning attempts to use it long-ranged can prove difficult.
Acquisition[]
In Call of Pripyat, the SGI-5k is the weapon of choice of veteran Freedom members, as well as Mercenary units – nearly every squad of these factions will have at least one in the squad. Loners may carry this weapon, especially in the Jupiter and Pripyat areas. Radiation suit-clad Monolith stalkers also use the weapon. It can also be found on expert Zombified Stalkers.
The SGI-5k is sold by Owl after obtaining the achievement One of Ours, and by Hawaiian after obtaining the achievement A Friend of Freedom. A SGI-5k and some 5.56x45mm SS109 ammunition are given by Loki for selling him General Tachenko's PDA.
One can be found in a stash in the outer western area of the Jupiter warehouse behind a red shack (one will get coordinates for it after completing the mission Kopachy). Another one is lying under broken bridge near the Cement factory along with 180 5.56 bullets and 2 RGD-5 grenades. There is one inside the Book Store, in a stash in a piled bookshelf, in the main room to the right of the entrance to the corridor.
Upgrades[]
Rapid automatic release (800 RU) Fire rate +10%Despite the name, it is the bolt that is replaced, as it has to endure the consequences of an improved rate of fire.

Trivia[]
- The weapon is modeled with a 20-round magazine in all games of the series, despite having a 30-round capacity in-game.
- The magazine appears to not be fully inserted into the gun, as the extruding plastic line on the magazine isn't touching the receiver.
- The weapon has a folded bipod under the handguard in all games in the series.
