The Stadium is a location in Pripyat featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Overview[]

The former Avangard (Авангард, meaning Vanguard) Sports Stadium in Pripyat included a running track, a football field and a full set of bleachers which are still standing. Following the disaster, the large field was used as a helicopter base and a transportation hub for the sick and injured.

The stadium is located in the northern part of Pripyat. The stadium is erroneously located just north to the Palace of Culture. Normally, the Ferris Wheel is just north to the Palace of Culture, whereas the stadium is located further north, directly to the north-east of the amusement park.

Shadow of Chernobyl[]

The Stadium is the northernmost part of Pripyat in Shadow of Chernobyl. Located directly north to the Palace of Culture, the Stadium is the last area the player has to go through in order to reach the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

As far as gameplay is concerned - there is none outside of a modded game installation. Upon entering it via the main/direct entrance (the largest one, directly below the red Cyrillic inscription Авангард), a brief in-game cutscene will be triggered, where the camera pans the stadium showing a group of Boars getting caught in Whirligigs anomaly. After the cutscene finishes, instead of continuing the game from the main entrance (where the cutscene had started), for some reason the player will be teleported directly to the exit for the next level, which is located on the opposite end of the stadium. The origins of this issue are not entirely clear, although it's most probably a cutscene-related bug, especially since the Stadium is filled with anomalies and both mutant as well as human enemies, what serves as an ideal evidence that it actually should be accessible.

Undoubtedly the finest evidence, which goes in that favor, is the fact that the Stadium actually is accessible, but only if not trying to get through it via the main entrance (the largest gate). It becomes accessible if going through the alternative routes - via two smaller gates located on both the left and right sides of the central entrance. Entering the Stadium through these two gates on the corners will not trigger the mentioned cutscene and thus, the Stadium will become accessible to explore and pass through to the exit for Chernobyl, just like all other playable areas of the level. This also serves as an evidence that this issue really is a cutscene-related bug.

The Stadium is a very dangerous area. Most of the center field is full of Whirligigs and Springboards, along with a large amount of Pseudogiants as well as other mutants such as Snorks and Rodents can be found in the same area, though most of them will be killed by the anomalies.

The only human resistance here will be three Exoskeleton-clad Monolith experts standing at the other side of the stadium, each holding a RPG-7u. As well, there is another expert holding a Gauss gun if the player approaches the buildings by the western side of the stadium. There is also usually a small group of praying Monolith fighters, by the entrance. The three experts have the ability to fire at the player from the other side of the stadium - considering the RPG's high power and damage against players and armors alike, they are dangerous and it is advised to snipe them as soon as possible. Their RPGs along with any rockets left in their inventory can be picked up, allowing the player to use a rare RPG for the final levels.

Factions members (i.e. Freedom, Duty, or Loners experts, as well as soldiers) who survive through Pripyat will stand by the entrance to the Chernobyl NPP.

Loot[]

Gravitational artifacts, such as Night Stars, are abundant in the central part of the Stadium.
