Wolf (Ru. Волк) is a Loner appearing in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
Background[]
Head of the rookie camp. An old stalker planning to bail out.[non-game. 1]
Wolf takes care of rookie stalkers at the rookie village in the Cordon. He plans to get out of the Zone one day, but never makes it out since there is always something holding him back, such as an emission or a military raid.[quote. 1] He has several right hand men, including Petruha. He also has a brother named Hound, who is also a stalker.
He seems to despise mercenaries.[quote. 2]
Appearances[]
Shadow of Chernobyl[]
I'd bop you one, but what's the use? It's not that simple. I got too few people, and even those I got are mostly rookies. I can't take that risk. If we lose this camp, things will get even worse for all the stalkers out there. And what about yourself? If you aren't too scared, I won't let my pride make me say no to a helping hand. So, will you help me deal with these thugs?
― Wolf to the Marked One
Wolf is found in the rookie village at the beginning of the game. After the player takes Sidorovich's mission to rescue Nimble from bandits, he will provide the player his starting loadout, including a hunting knife, a PMm pistol along with ammunition for it, and will point the player towards Petruha and his squad. If the player talks again after rescuing Nimble, he will give the player a Jellyfish artifact.
After bringing the Documents from Lab X18, part 4 to Barkeep, Wolf will vanish from the village. According to Fanatic, he got a message from a stalker passing by, packed his things, along with a box of dynamite, and went off, leaving Fanatic in charge.[quote. 3] After that, Wolf can be found at the Crooked beam in the Army Warehouses along with Smartass, Father Diodor, and possibly Master, or random Loners in case the named stalkers were killed. If spoken to, he will muse about possibly joining Freedom. He cannot provide missions at this point, and will remain at the camp for the rest of the game.
Related missions[]
- Get information from the scout: The player must talk to Wolf regarding the Bandits camp. He will provide the player with their first weapon - a PMm and other basic supplies.
- Destroy the boar lair: Wolf wants the Marked One to eliminate the boars near the rookie village.
- Destroy the mutants at the farm: Wolf wants the Marked One to eliminate fleshes in the northern farm so that stalkers can establish an outpost there.
Clear Sky[]
Some of the folk you see around here... damn hippies with their slippers and mesh bags looking for "adventure" or friggin' nerds that ain't never held nothing but a microscope in their girlie little hands. Such posers don't last long around here.
― Wolf
Wolf assumes a lesser role and simply provides information to Scar, either about Sidorovich or about the rookie village or about himself. He also greets Scar upon his first time visiting the village. He gives one stash coordinate containing two medkits and three bandages in exchange for 450 rubles. The stash is found in a green crate near the left side fence of the army outpost at the fallen tree. There is also a crate of Energy drinks behind him, which are free.
Related missions[]
- Help the stalker: He asks the player to help a rookie stalker fight off mutants near the village.
- Rescue Wolf's brother from captivity: Wolf asks the player to rescue his brother Hound from a group of Bandits.

Glitches[]
Shadow of Chernobyl[]
- After he moves to the Crooked beam, he is almost guaranteed to be found dead in the central campfire. This is due to a well-known error in the game's spawning system, which has a tendency of spawning Wolf directly on top of the fire. Sometimes, he will not be found dead but injured, and one may help him out by giving a medkit, but this is fairly pointless since upon the player's return to the Army Warehouses he will be injured again or dead. This can be averted if Smartass (or the stalker replacing him) is dead by the time Wolf reaches the Army Warehouses, after what he will be standing at Smartass' position, sparing him from the campfire.
Clear Sky[]
- Wolf speaks with an unfiltered voice in-game. This is because he is assigned the voice of a regular stalker without headwear, despite wearing a gas mask.

- Wolf has a number of unused dialogue lines, in which he namely tells the player more about himself[non-game. 2] and the center of the Zone.[non-game. 3] These lines are found in the game's string tables but not actually implemented in his dialogue.
- In Build 1935, his face model was the same as Skinflint.

Trivia[]
Shadow of Chernobyl[]

Wolf's grave
- For some reason, attacking stalkers at Wolf's camp in the Army Warehouses will not result in Wolf becoming hostile to the player.
- Within the Army Warehouses, one can find a grave bearing various names, including that of Wolf with the dates "1989 - 2014". While 1989 could refer to his actual date of birth, it is likely this is not canon since Shadow of Chernobyl is set in 2012, two years before Wolf's presumed "death". Ironically, this grave is found atop a hill just beside the camp where he is found.

Wolf: "I used to work in a mine before they closed it down. I had no money and nothing to look forward to. Then I heard some rumors about the fabulous riches hidden inside the Zone. I had some experience under my belt, so I thought "What the hell?". Can't say I've become rich, but some cash came my way, that's for sure. This is a typical story; most of us got here the same way."

Wolf: "Ahem, that's a question alright... I've been looking for the answer for two years! I still haven't found a way to the center, at least not one I could take and come back alive. My friends and I tried to break through a couple of times. I barely made it back, but my friends - well, some did, some didn't... You'll ask why we went there at all. We were chasing our dreams, trying to make them come true."

Wolf: "I'm the boss around here. I'm teaching these greenies and nerds how to not become mutant feed on their first trip into the Zone. It ain't easy, you know? I've spent a good chunk of my life in the Zone, and I've been trying to get out for some time now... God knows how long I've spent at the Cordon... but it's like this place just doesn't want to let me go. It's either a military raid, or another emission, or a profitable job... and every time I think "OK, just this once and then I'm outta here," but here I am."

Wolf: "You mercs are all the same - you don't give two shits about nobody!"

Fanatic: "Oh, he got a message from a stalker who was passing by. He packed his things, grabbed a box of dynamite and went deep in the Zone. I'm still getting back in shape after the wounds I got at the Cordon so he asked me to look after the kids."
